MULTI-AGENCY WILDFIRES TRAINING ON RESERVOIR HILL COMING – KQEN News Radio

June 17, 2024 3:40 a.m.

The City of Roseburg Fire Department and Central Douglas Fire & Rescue Authority will actively participate in wildfire training exercises on Reservoir Hill in Roseburg on June 24, 26 and 28.

A release from the Roseburg Fire Department said that during training exercises, open fires would occur throughout the day. The training will start at 9:00 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m. each day. Firefighters may remain at the training location for an extended period after completion of training for site cleanup. Training exercises will take place on city-owned property. Live burn training will take place on three separate sections of the hillside to allow for training on each of the days.

In preparation for the training exercises, firefighters will conduct small controlled burns on June 18, to help protect nearby residential properties and city assets before larger burns begin.

The release states that training objectives include refresher training on wildland firefighting tactics in collaboration with local firefighting agencies, continuing education on command and control procedures for response to multiple incidents and the removal of fuels in an effort to minimize the threat of uncontrolled burning in the area. This training opportunity not only provides the opportunity to train together, but also improve the efficiency of interoperability between multiple agencies.
