Mt. Pleasant man in custody for stabbing sleeping parents

MT PLEASANT, MICH. (WWJ) A man is in custody, accused of attempting to stab his parents to death in Mount Pleasant.

The Isabella County Sheriff's Office said they responded to a home in Winn near River on a report that the suspect, 24, stabbed his parents Saturday (5/25) around 4 a.m. When officers arrived, they found the suspect had fled. the scene in a car.

The investigation revealed that the parents, ages 42 and 43, were sleeping when the suspect began stabbing them, the sheriff's office said.

“Both men woke up and were able to defend themselves while the suspect continued to attempt to attack them,” a news release from the sheriff’s office states.

Two minor children were in the house at the time. They were not injured, according to the sheriff's office.

As deputies continued their investigation; they learned the suspect was heading south on US-127 near St. John's. Deputies called Gratiot and Clinton counties to help locate the car.

Within an hour, Clinton County deputies conducted a traffic stop on the interstate and arrested the suspect.

The parents' injuries are not life-threatening, according to the sheriff's office.

No details have been released about a potential motive.

The suspect is booked into the Isabella County Jail.
