A Mountain View resident was arrested Tuesday afternoon on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly hitting his brother with a metal broom, according to the Mountain View Police Department.

Dispatchers received a report around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11 that a fight was in progress at a residence located in the 200 block of Monroe Drive near the Palo Alto border. When police arrived, they found that two men, later identified as brothers, were involved in an altercation that took place inside and outside the home. A window was broken during the fight, police said.

The fight started over “verbal insults” which led to the suspect hitting his brother with a metal broom on the arm. According to police, the arm was swollen due to the injury. No other injuries were reported.

The suspect also allegedly spit on two police officers during his arrest, police said.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of assault with a weapon, intentional use of force or violence against a police officer and vandalism. He was transported and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail.
