Mountain View man arrested for alleged property, drug offenses

(BIVN) – Hawaii police have charged a Mountain View man with various property, drug and ammunition offenses after an alleged burglary in Pāhoa.

Dustin Crivello, 34, was arrested June 5 and made his first appearance June 7 in South Hilo District Court.

From the Hawaii Police Department:

The charges stem from an incident reported on June 5, 2024, at approximately 11:04 a.m., where an active burglary allegedly occurred at a residence located in the 15-2000 block of Moano Street, Pahoa.

Responding officers contacted the person who reported the incident, who informed them that there was a group of men at one of their neighbors' homes who should not be there. Officers then contacted the homeowner who confirmed that no one should be in his residence or on his property. Upon further investigation, officers were able to determine that numerous items had been removed from the residence and property, including his vehicle.

Upon arrival on scene, officers contacted Crivello who was arrested and transported to the East Hawaii Detention Center for booking, processing and further investigation by the Area I Criminal Investigation Section. A registered vehicle in the name of Crivello who was at the scene was recovered and towed to the Hawaii Police Department pending execution of a search warrant.

On June 6, 2024, detectives executed a search warrant on Crivello's vehicle, which resulted in the discovery of:

• More than 1.7 grams of methamphetamine
• A pipe smoking meth
• A check belonging to the victim
• A real 9 mm cartridge
• A receipt from Kea'au Pawnbroker for Dustin Crivello.

Detectives followed up with the Kea'au pawn shop and later learned that Crivello had sold them a Rigid brand table saw, which had been stolen from the victim's home. The table saw was recovered as evidence.

After speaking with the Hawaii County Prosecutor's Office on June 6, 2024, detectives charged Crivello with the following offenses:

• First degree burglary
• Second degree theft
• Prohibited ownership or possession
• Place to store ammunition
• Third degree promoting a dangerous drug
• Unauthorized possession of confidential personal information

Total bail was set at $31,000.

Unable to post bail, Crivello made his first appearance on June 7, 2024, in South Hilo District Court.

Police say the initial investigation was led by Puna District Patrol Officers and taken over by Detective Kimo Keli'ipa'akaua of the Area I Criminal Investigation Section. Anyone with information regarding this crime can contact Detective Keli'ipa'akaua at (808) 961-2375 or [email protected].
