Mount Pleasant shooting of suspect in custody following manhunt

MOUNT PLEASANT, MI — Hours after police advised Mount Pleasant residents to lock their doors as they hunted for a dangerous shooter, the suspect is in custody.

At 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18, Michigan State Police announced they had arrested the 58-year-old suspect. He was booked into the Isabella County Jail at 4 a.m. on charges of assault with intent to kill.

He is expected to be arraigned in Isabella County District Court Tuesday afternoon.

The incident began around 12:30 a.m. Monday when the suspect allegedly shot another man and then fled on foot. As police searched for the shooter, they urged citizens in the South Leaton Roads and Airport area to lock their doors and call 911 if they spotted him.

The intersection is approximately 1 mile north of the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort.

Police did not provide additional details about the shooting or the suspect's arrest.
