Motorcyclist who died from injuries suffered in northeast Spokane crash identified

SPOKANE, Wash. – The man involved in a motorcycle crash in northeast Spokane has been identified.

May 21, Jayme Scamolla, 38, crashed Tuesday near the intersection of Queen Avenue and Julia Street and later succumbed to her injuries in hospital.

A spokesperson for the Spokane Police Department said the man, who has not yet been identified by the medical examiner's office, died despite the efforts of doctors at the scene and at the hospital.

The accident occurred shortly before 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police say a neighbor saw the rider's motorcycle slide across the road before seeing the man on the ground further down the road with what the witness believed to be serious traumatic injuries.

Investigators discovered the motorcyclist was traveling north on Rebecca Street as the road curves near Queen when he lost control.

Officers also learned that the motorcyclist the man was riding had been reported stolen.

Neighbors near the Rebecca Street intersection have expressed concerns about what they described as a chronic speeding problem in the area.

“My children are not allowed out of my garden,” one woman said. “Two years ago, two guys were racing and wrecked my car…and so my kids aren't allowed out unless they're in the yard.”

This neighbor said her family wanted to leave the area because of these concerns.
