Motorcyclist seriously injured in Naples collision with sedan

The sheriff's office said driver inattention was considered a factor in the crash. The motorcyclist was airlifted to Maine Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

NAPLES, Maine — A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash Saturday afternoon when a vehicle allegedly veered into his path at an intersection in Naples.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that it responded to the intersection of Roosevelt Trail and Kansas Road shortly before 1 p.m. after receiving a call about an accident involving a motorcycle and a sedan.

When they arrived, they found that the motorcyclist, Daniel Faubert, 29, of Saco, had been seriously injured during the collision. Faubert was transported by helicopter to Maine Medical Center with serious and life-threatening injuries, they said in the release.

An initial investigation into the crash led authorities to believe that Austin Costa, 18, of Naples, who was the driver of the car involved in the crash, was turning left onto Roosevelt Trail from Kansas Road when Faubert, who was traveling westbound on Roosevelt Trail. , collided with the vehicle and hit the driver's side door of the sedan.

Costa and a minor passenger were not injured, according to authorities.

The sheriff's office said driver inattention was considered a factor in the crash, and Costa was summoned to the scene for failing to yield to right-of-way traffic.

The Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Naples Fire Department, Bridgton Fire Department and LifeFlight of Maine at the crash scene.
