Motorcyclist killed in Highway 1 crash identified as Half Moon Bay mayor's son

(KRON) — The victim of Saturday's motorcycle crash on Highway 1 in Half Moon Bay has been identified, the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office announced in a news release. The slain motorcyclist was identified as Joaquin Dominik Jimenez Alvarado, the son of Half Moon Bay Mayor Joaquin Jimenez.

“Our hearts and thoughts are with Mayor Jimenez and his entire family during this time of unimaginable loss,” said San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus. “No one is ever prepared for such unexpected tragedies, and when they hit so close to home, they affect us all deeply. As a community, let us come together to support the Jimenez family and provide them with our love and strength.


The accident, which closed the highway in both directions for hours, occurred around 5:45 p.m. in the area of ​​Highway 1 and Mirada Road. The collision involved a van and a motorcycle.

First responders responded to the scene to provide medical treatment to the motorcyclist. He died at the scene, authorities said. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured and remained at the scene to assist in the investigation.

Highway 1 reopened later that night around 11:30 p.m.
