Motorcyclist injured in crash with SF Muni bus in Outer Richmond

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A motorcyclist was taken to the hospital after a crash involving a Muni bus in San Francisco's Outer Richmond district, according to the San Francisco Fire Department. A 911 caller reported the incident around 2:30 p.m. The accident reportedly occurred at 44th Avenue and Balboa Street.

Firefighters told a KRON4 reporter that a man in his 20s was riding his motorcycle when they believe he ran a stop sign, failed to see the city bus and was collided with it. The motorcycle has since been towed.


SFPD said it was able to obtain video of the crash and confirmed the motorcyclist ran a stop sign and his leg was then run over by the bus, officials said.

Video from the scene shows several first responder vehicles and the victim being placed on stretchers. The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) confirmed that a Muni bus was involved in the incident.

Buses 18 and 31 were delayed on Balboa between 43rd and 45th. Both buses will be rerouted via Cabrillo between 43rd and 45th, the SFMTA said.

The condition of the motorcyclist is unknown at the time of this report. Preliminary reports from the SFPD indicate two victims of the accident, but the investigation revealed no other injuries.
