Motorcyclist dies after collision with car driven by teen with learner's permit in Auburn

A motorcyclist has died after crashing into a car in Auburn Friday evening. Police said they were called to the intersection of South Main Street and Witham Road around 5.30pm on Friday. Investigators said a 15-year-old female with a learner's permit, accompanied by her mother, was driving a 2004 Volkswagen Beetle when she attempted to turn onto South Main Street from Witham Road. Jessica Carter, 40, who was riding a 2010 Kawasaki motorcycle, swerved, came upon the Beetle and attempted to avoid a collision, but ended up hitting the driver's side of the Beetle. Police said Carter was wearing a helmet but sustained life-threatening injuries, and despite life-saving efforts at the scene, Carter unfortunately did not survive. The teenager and her mother were not seriously injured. South Main Street and Witham Road were closed for several hours while the accident was reconstructed. The accident remains under investigation.
