Mother's 'world' shattered after son and another teenager died in three-car crash just before Christmas

A mother who lay next to her dying son following a horror three-car crash just days before Christmas says her “world was shattered”.

Northumbria Police said a Suzuki Vitara, a Range Rover Evoque and a Ford Focus collided on the A192 Hartford Bank in Cramlington at 9.30pm on Friday.

Teenagers Corey Mavin, 15, and Connor Lapworth, 18, both from Blyth, died following the tragic accident.

Corey's mother, Lisa Mavin, posted an emotional message on Facebook afterward. “My world is broken,” she said. “I keep looking in his room expecting to see him there. I thought I heard him cough. His little brother asked if it was her voice he heard.

“I have never experienced such pain. The last time I heard from him was at 1:55 p.m. that day. I feel so guilty. I wish it was me, but instead I lay next to my boy as his heart took its last beat.

Emergency services found Lapworth dead inside the Suzuki, while Mavin suffered serious head injuries in the same car. The 15-year-old was rushed to hospital but died on Saturday.

Two other men, aged 41 and 17, who were also in the Suzuki, were seriously injured and were taken to hospital where they are now.

The 36-year-old female driver of the Range Rover was seriously injured and rushed to hospital, while the 52-year-old female driver of the Ford Focus was uninjured.

Northumbria Police said: “Our thoughts are firmly with the families of the two young people who lost their lives. » Both families are supported by specialist family liaison officers.

The force said it is now appealing for witnesses or anyone with information, such as dashcam footage of the area at the time of the incident, to come forward. They should use the 'Report' page on the police website or call 101, quoting NP-20231222-1120.
