Mother of sexual assault victim at Metro Atlanta jail speaks out after police officer's arrest – WSB-TV Channel 2

GRIFFIN, Ga. — A Spalding County detention officer was arrested after authorities say he sexually assaulted an inmate.

The arrest comes after an inmate at the Spalding County Jail reported to staff that Detention Deputy Quentin M. Morgan, 22, had entered his room and assaulted him.

Channel 2's Michael Doudna was live WSB Tonight at 11 p.m. Wednesday where he spoke with the mother of the assault victim.

Emotions are still raw for Judy Freeman.

I’m hurt, I’m angry and I’m frustrated,” Freeman said after her son was allegedly sexually assaulted by a deputy sworn to protect and serve. “He is humiliated and hurt. And when he suffers as a parent, you will suffer.

According to court documents, Deputy Quentin Morgan first showed an inmate a personal, inappropriate sexual video before later returning to his cell and forcing him to perform oral sex.

“I just started crying,” Freeman said.

Spalding County says after collecting video evidence and conducting interviews, Morgan confessed to everything.

“But when you’re talking about an officer of the law. This makes me so angry. This is someone who is supposed to serve you and protect you,” she said.

And the family wonders whether the 22-year-old should have been employed here in the first place.

Records show Morgan was initially hired to work at the Coweta County Jail last November, but was fired in March for failing to meet performance standards.

But a month later, he was hired back here in Spalding County.

TRENDING STORIES:

“I don't understand. If he was fired from one county, how is he working in another county?” Freeman asked.

Spalding County did not say why they hired Morgan, but said they immediately launched an investigation after hearing what happened.

“He broke the law; he will be held accountable and face the consequences,” Darrell Dix said in a statement.

“You start crying because as a mother there’s nothing you can do,” Freeman said.

On Friday, Morgan was fired, arrested and booked into the Spalding County Jail. He is being held without bail.
