Mother of girls stabbed at Braintree AMC thanks first responders, doctors

The mother of three of the girls injured in a stabbing attack at a Braintree movie theater Saturday night is thanking first responders and medics who helped her daughters.

Lisa Dembowski's daughters were among four girls stabbed by a man at a theater at the AMC location in Braintree in an unprovoked attack. Martha's Vineyard resident Jared Ravizza, 26, is currently being investigated as a stabbing suspect after being arrested in connection with a stabbing at a Plymouth McDonald's that occurred shortly after the attack of the Dembowksi girls.

Dembow took to Facebook Monday morning to thank the police and firefighters who responded to the stabbing, saying they calmed her and her daughters.

“Our first responders are incredible people,” she wrote.

Dembowski also thanked the medical team who cared for his daughters at Boston Medical Center after they were taken there by ambulance. They “went above and beyond to not only ensure [her daughters] were physically well, but they felt safe.

“They see everything and must be exhausted and yet they were willing to do whatever we needed. Our friends and family, the community – thank you,” she wrote.

Dembowski recounted what happened during the stabbing to WCVB Sunday, explaining that three of the girls — ages 9 to 17 — were his daughters and the fourth was their friend. They were alone in the room when a man came up behind them and stabbed them, laughing all the while.

The suspect stabbed Dembowski's oldest daughter in the back, another of her daughters in the chest and the third in the arm, she told WCVB. Braintree police previously said the girls' injuries were not life-threatening, but the mother said her children were shaken and never wanted to go to the movies again.

“Kids are resilient, but I think they're terrified of going to the movies on a Saturday night and this could happen,” she said. “Someone could just walk into a movie theater and do that and not know who they are.”

AMC said in a statement to WCVB that it will add additional security to the theater. McDonald's released a statement on the stabbing in Plymouth Monday evening to MassLive.

“We are shocked and devastated by this senseless act of violence. The safety of our crew and customers is always our top priority. We are grateful to law enforcement for their quick response to protect our Cape Cod communities and will continue to assist them in their investigation,” the restaurant chain said.
