Mother arrested, released after child's death in Palmdale, charged with accessory after the fact

PALMDALE, Calif. (KABC) — After a father was arrested in connection with the death of his young son found unconscious in a Palmdale park, the child's mother was arrested on suspicion of being an accessory after the fact, records show from the prison.

The two suspects were then released.

Amanda Flores, 30, was arrested May 25 on felony charges and released four days later, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Online records indicated that the reason for his release was not sufficient grounds to file a criminal complaint.

Jail records indicate Schaffer Grindstaff, 29, was released Monday evening, also on insufficient grounds to file a criminal complaint.

He was arrested after his son, Cameron Flores, was found unresponsive at Melville J. Courson Park in Palmdale last week. Investigators said the boy's father made inconsistent statements during his interview.

At the time, Grindstaff told deputies his son was suffering a medical emergency. He was later arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to conceal a crime and child endangerment.

The circumstances of the child's death are still under investigation. No official cause has been released by the medical examiner's office.
