Mother and child stabbed in North Olmsted Giant Eagle

Both stabbing victims were taken to UH St. John Medical Center, while the suspect, Bionca Ellis, 32, is in custody.

NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio — The North Olmsted Police Department is investigating after a mother and her three-year-old son were stabbed at the Giant Eagle on Lorain Road.

According to a police statement, officers were called to the store around 3 p.m. after “several calls to 911” about a possible stabbing in the parking lot. Police arrived on scene and arrested a suspect, 32-year-old Bionca Ellis.

Both victims received first aid from police at the scene and then transported to UH St. John Medical Center, where they are “currently undergoing treatment,” according to North Olmsted Mayor Nicole Dailey Jones. We do not yet know what their conditions are.

North Olmsted police say their investigation is ongoing.

Below is Mayor Dailey Jones' full statement:

“I am deeply saddened by an incident that occurred this afternoon in the parking lot of the North Olmsted Giant Eagle supermarket. A woman, currently in the custody of North Olmsted police, stabbed a customer and her two-year-old son. (3 years)

“The mother and child were immediately transported to St. John Medical Center where they are currently undergoing treatment.

“Our hearts go out to both victims of what appears to be a random act of violence.

“Once again, our North Olmsted security forces responded quickly and handled the situation with great professionalism. »

Monday's stabbing occurred nearly a year after a murder-suicide took place at the North Olmsted Giant Eagle on June 25, 2023.
