Mother Accepts Plea Deal in Missing Baby Amiah's Case

INDIANAPOLIS — A mother has pleaded guilty in connection with the death of her 8-month-old daughter, Amiah Robertson.

According to court documents obtained by FOX59/CBS4, Amber Robertson pleaded guilty to neglect of a dependent, a level 5 felony. In exchange for pleading guilty to this charge, the state will dismiss the following charges which were initially filed against Robertson:


  • Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, a Level 3 Felony
  • Neglect of a Dependent, a Level 5 Felony
  • Neglect of a dependent, a level 6 felony

The court accepted the plea agreement, which carries a maximum sentence of up to six years in prison.

The plea agreement also stipulated that Robertson must comply with a no-contact order with her ex-boyfriend Robert Lyons, who was also charged in connection with the case. The agreement also sets out mandatory requirements that Amber Robertson remain in the Marion County Jail until her sentencing later this month and submit to probation-approved mental health evaluations.

Last month, Robert Lyons was sentenced to 16 years in prison, with 10 years served in the Indiana Department of Corrections and 6 years suspended after accepting a plea deal in the case.

According to previous reports, an investigation was opened in March 2019 following the disappearance of 8-month-old Amiah Robertson.

According to previous reports, 8-month-old Amiah Robertson went missing five years ago on March 9, 2019. Her mother, Amber Robertson, reportedly delayed contacting the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department to report her missing until the 16th. March.

Amber previously told investigators she left Amiah with Lyons so he could drop her off with a babysitter in the 200 block of South Holmes Avenue.

Amiah was never seen again afterward, with one witness claiming to have observed Amiah on March 8 or 9 sporting bruises on the side of her face. Although some of the child's personal belongings and evidence linked to the girl were found in Eagle Creek near McCarty Street, no remains were ever found.

According to online court records, Amber is scheduled for a jury trial June 24 at 9 a.m. in Marion 28 Superior Court.
