MORGAN COUNTY SHERIFF REVEALS HE WAS DIAGNOSIS WITH CANCER – 3B Media News

Wayne Potter, who has served as Morgan County sheriff since 2018, said he has recently experienced medical issues that have caused him recurring pain. He said he would remain sheriff for the time being. Here is his open letter to the citizens of Morgan County:

Citizens and Friends of Morgan County:

First of all, let me repeat, as I have done many times over the years, that I am grateful for the trust and support you have always given me and my family. It is an honor and privilege to serve you and your family as Morgan County Sheriff.

At all times, I have been open and transparent with information regarding your Sheriff's Office. Today is no different. For several weeks, I have had ongoing medical issues that are causing me uncomfortable, recurring pain and ongoing problems. I went through a few tests and doctor visits to try to get some relief. Unfortunately, last week we received some news that we were not prepared for. Scans and tests revealed a mass on my pancreas and lesions on my liver. Pancreatic cancer that had spread to the liver was the diagnosis. Obviously, this is not good news at all and me, Léa, the children and the family are devastated to say the least. Now let me be clear. I will fight this thing with everything in my soul and power and use everything at my disposal.

I will remain your sheriff until the good Lord sees fit. I hope to have many more good months and, hopefully, many more years. However, I am prepared and at peace with what is thrown at us and the possible outcomes. Léa and the children are not really at peace. They need your specific prayers, as I surely do. I can assure you that the sheriff's office will be in good hands during my absence. It will work and serve you and your family as always. I encourage you to contact Deputy Chief Rick Hamby or any other member of my staff if you need anything.

What we need are prayers. We believe in prayer and divine intervention. We pray that God's will will be done and that His healing will cover us and keep us where we are. I love each of you and appreciate everything you have done for me and my family.
