Montgomery County Police: 19-year-old arrested in series of armed robberies and carjackings

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Maryland (DC News Now) — The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) said it arrested a 19-year-old Tuesday for his involvement in several armed robberies and an armed carjacking.

Shortly after 8 a.m., officers responded to a report of an armed carjacking in the 7100 block of Democracy Blvd.

Investigators said Sean Charles Wright IV, 19, approached a man sitting inside a Toyota minivan. He sat in his passenger seat and lifted his t-shirt, suggesting he had a gun. He told the man to get out of the car and leave the keys.

The victim complied and Wright left.

A little over an hour later, at 9:18 a.m., officers with the Rockville City Police Department responded to an armed robbery in the 100 block of Rollins Avenue.

Detectives believe Wright entered a store, walked up to the counter and asked an employee to open the cash register. When the employee refused, Wright grabbed the money from the counter and fled the scene in the minivan.

Officers responded to a separate call at 9:25 a.m. at a shopping center in the 11500 block of Rockville Pike. The officer saw a man, matching the description of the carjacking suspect, running away from a nearby 7-Eleven.

The officer approached Wright after seeing him get into the stolen minivan, asking him to get out. He attempted to flee and, after a short chase, was arrested.

Officers later learned that Wright allegedly entered that 7-Eleven around 9:25 a.m., walked past the counter, assaulted an employee and demanded money from the register. He then left the scene with the stolen money and was quickly arrested by the police officer who noticed him.

Wright was taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit where he was charged with armed carjacking and multiple counts of armed robbery.
