'Monster' arrested for stabbing child and held at gunpoint by owner

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. — In a gated community near Rockford, a homeowner held a man at gunpoint early Saturday morning after the 24-year-old allegedly stabbed an 11-year-old girl who was sleeping with a friend in the House.

Around 3 a.m., the Kent County Sheriff's Office said they received a 911 call from a resident living at a home on Ella Terrace Court, located in the River Bluffs neighborhood of Plainfield Township.

The caller told dispatch that a man covered in a “large amount of blood” entered his home, according to KCSO Undersheriff Bryan Muir.

The suspect had stabbed an 11-year-old girl, a friend of the owner’s daughter, “several times”. Her friend was not injured, according to police.

Shortly after the 911 call, law enforcement arrived on scene and arrested the suspect at the residence.

The victim, taken to hospital for treatment, was considered “stable” Saturday morning.

“We are grateful to be able to take this monster off the streets,” Muir said. “Obviously, all of our thoughts and prayers go out to [the victim] and his family.”

Muir said there was “nothing that connects the suspect” to anyone in the house that night and that the suspect – believed to have “ties” to Kent County – did not live in the neighborhood.

“We're really trying to connect all the dots in the investigation right now to determine how we ended up in this residence,” Muir said.

The case will be presented to the prosecutor's office early next week, according to KCSO.
