Dublin Fire Chief Thomas Vanderbilt was recently recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians for achieving 20 consecutive years of national EMS certification.

To maintain its status as a nationally registered EMT, Vanderbilt completed, on a biennial basis, the most comprehensive recertification program for EMS professionals in America.

Vanderbilt became a paramedic in 1978 while a student at Franklin Pierce University in Rindge. After returning to Pennsylvania, his paramedic license expired because he was not affiliated with any department at that time.

Vanderbilt moved to Dublin in 1987 and became a member of the Dublin Fire Department as a firefighter in 1988. At that time, he obtained his first responder certification, which he retained until 2004, when which he again obtained his EMT-B license. He has been fire chief for 23 years.

The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians serves as the national EMS certification body by providing a uniform process for assessing the knowledge and skills required for competent practice by EMS professionals throughout their careers and maintaining a record of certification status.
