Moments after Seminole Co. man allegedly admitted to stabbing his girlfriend

Newly released body camera video shows the moments after a Seminole County man allegedly called 911 and told the dispatcher he had stabbed his girlfriend. Farel Torres faces murder, accused of killing the mother of his child. The 37-year-old had his first court appearance Thursday and was told he would be held without bail. Body camera video released a day before the killing shows Casselberry police arresting Torres while sobbing in the San Jose Apartments. Police said they found him with blood on his hands. Santiago and her two children lived together in the apartment, according to the arrest report. Police said Torres was the father of one of the children and the children were not there when their mother was stabbed in the head. Casselberry police said this isn't the first time they've heard of the couple. Police responded to a call in March but said they did not file charges because no one was violent. Police said the sheriff's office received a report in 2021 that Torres was violent toward Santiago. “We do our best to help victims and, you know, it's about getting the word out there that there is help,” said Jeanne Gold, CEO of Seminole County Victims' Rights Coalition Inc. The group runs the Safehouse of Seminole, which houses a shelter for survivors of domestic violence. “Our shelter, which has 48 emergency shelter beds, was very full from January until probably last month,” Gold said. Advocates said nothing should stop anyone from seeking help if they are struggling. “You don’t have to be a victim to call a helpline,” Gold said. “You can call the hotline and say, 'Hey, I know someone, I want to help them. What can I do?'” Torres is scheduled to return to court for his arraignment hearing on July 2. If you are a victim of domestic violence, please seek help by calling 911 or the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233).
