Moment, father of two, 36, shot dead 'by 14-year-old and friend' trying to steal golf cart from Houston farmers market

Surveillance footage captured the moment a father of two was shot and killed by thieves who tried to steal a golf cart from a farmers' market.

Damon Price, 36, was working at the Houston Farmers Market Thursday morning when cops say two people entered and tried to steal a golf cart.

Price had been helping to register the delivery trucks when the incident occurred and attempted to stop the thieves, when they shot him several times.

The two suspects were then filmed fleeing the scene, leaving him for dead in the parking lot.

Friday, ABC13 said a 14-year-old was now in custody in connection with his death.

In surveillance footage released by police, the two young suspects can be seen browsing goods at the market and looking at the golf cart.

They were carrying backpacks and one of them appeared to be wearing flip flops.

Investigators who responded to the scene said they found at least four shell casings.

“It happened while he was doing his job,” his father, Leo Price Sr., told the outlet. “Really, there’s nothing to be said about a man going to work.”

Price's ex-wife, Cheterria Alexander, with whom he shares a 14-year-old daughter and a 4-year-old daughter, learned of Prince's death while she was on her way to a chemotherapy appointment.

“Put down your guns. The man was just working to try to provide for his children and his family,” Alexander told KTRK.

“He has a family, just like you all have a family. We take a loss. They should also suffer a loss,” said Price’s ex-wife, Cheterria Alexander. “I just ask for justice to be done. Whoever did this to him, turn himself in. He had babies. What if it was you?
