Mom stabbed another parent during elementary school road rage drive: Vegas police

A van at an elementary school escalated into a violent road rage incident in Las Vegas this week when police say a mother ended up stabbing another parent while leaving the school parking lot.

According to a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police report, the altercation occurred around 3:30 p.m. Monday outside of Steele Elementary School.

A 30-year-old woman allegedly tried to leave the school parking lot after picking up her child when another car blocked her from getting into a single lane, she told police.

The driver of the other car, a white SUV, stopped, got out of his car and began making hand gestures toward the woman, according to the report. The woman then pulled up alongside the man, who is the parent of another child at the school, and got out of her red Mercedes.

The two began arguing, prompting the woman's son to get out of the passenger side of the Mercedes and argue as well, allegedly telling the other parent “not to talk to his mother that way” , according to the report.

The victim's and the woman's accounts to police begin to differ at this point, as the SUV driver alleged that the woman's son punched him in the side, to which he responded pushing the boy down.

The woman, however, alleged that the man was the aggressor and that he first hit her son, leading her to take out a penknife and stab him once in the stomach.

Surveillance video of the incident collected by police confirms the general timeline of events provided by both parties and shows the man and the woman's son pushing each other, but does not specify who was the main aggressor, according to the report.

After stabbing the other parent, the woman asked her son to get back in the car and she drove off, according to the report. Meanwhile, the victim was transported to a local trauma unit and rushed to the operating room.

After convincing a family member, the woman eventually called the school, first claiming she was a “witness” to the events, but then admitting to the call police that she was actually the perpetrator of the stabbing. The police told her to return to school, which she did with her two children.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of battery with a deadly weapon, booked and ultimately released. She is due back in court on September 7.
