Mom says movie stabbing suspect 'was laughing the whole time'

The 26-year-old man who allegedly stabbed four girls Saturday at an AMC movie theater in Massachusetts “was laughing the whole time” during the attack, the mother of three of the victims said in a new interview with CBS affiliate WBZ-TV .

“They had just sat down, they had just gotten their concessions. I guess he came in behind them. They were in the second row,” said Lisa Dembowski, who added that her daughters and their friend were alone in the auditorium at the time.

“My eldest leaned over to get something, he took it from behind his back. My other daughter in the chest. My last daughter on his arm,” she continued. The attacker “laughed all the time. SO [he stabbed] their friend and ran away. The two older girls chased him outside, then they realized what was happening.

The suspect was later identified as Jared Ravizza, a resident of Chilmark on Martha's Vineyard who is believed to be CEO of his own marketing company. He was arrested on Saturday. All four AMC victims are expected to recover from their injuries.

An AMC staffer previously said the attacker wore “an oversized trench coat, sunglasses and a long blonde wig,” although it was unclear whether the blonde hair was actually natural.

Ravizza is accused of carrying out a series of attacks over the weekend. According to Vineyard Gazette, he was taken into custody on Saturday evening “after hitting a Porsche while fleeing the police”. Earlier in the evening, he allegedly stopped at a McDonald's drive-thru, “reached through the window and grabbed the 28-year-old man working there” before stabbing him. He then allegedly went inside and stabbed “a 21-year-old woman who worked there.” The victims were taken to hospital for treatment.

“Preliminary investigation suggests a likely link to an earlier incident at a movie theater in Braintree, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries to four juveniles,” police said.

THE Vineyard Gazette reported that Ravizza's arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday. At this time, he is expected to be charged with “assault with intent to kill and two counts of battery with a dangerous weapon for the Plymouth incidents.”

WBZ-TV further reported that Ravizza “is believed to be linked to a murder in Deep River, Connecticut.”

Dembowksi, who works as a guidance counselor, said she wants the attacker to be held accountable. “I hope he gets what he deserves,” she said. “I understand mental health. I am a counselor. I understand well. I think he's a pretty sick person for hurting children.

She said her children were shocked and petrified by the ordeal. “They never want to go to the movies again,” she said. “Children are resilient. But I think they're terrified of going to the movies on a Saturday night, and that this could happen.
