Mom Captures Teen Daughter's Emotional Reaction to Birthday Party Invitation

A mother has revealed how much it meant to her to see her daughter's emotional reaction to being invited to a birthday party.

Heather Avis recently took to Instagram to show off her daughter Macy, 15, giving her an invitation she received for an upcoming birthday party. The clip showed Macy smiling from ear to ear as her mother asked her, “Have you been invited to a birthday party?”

Macy could barely contain her excitement as she told her mother that she had been invited to the party, before squealing with joy.

Her mother started to choke up, before telling Macy how happy she is for her and how special it is to be invited.

“Yesterday Macy got in the car and showed me a birthday party invitation for a friend at school who is also in the life skills program,” Heather continued in the post's caption.

” You all ! I'm not exaggerating when I tell you that you can count on one hand the number of birthday parties she's been invited to by her classmates/friends at school SINCE KINDERGARTEN! She is now in ninth grade. His joy at this invitation is palpable. WOW! To me, it spoke of a wish fulfilled. All I could do was laugh with her, then cry as I celebrated with her.

After the post, many people took to the comments section to express how much they related to Macy's enthusiasm, either because of their own children's similar lack of party invitations or because of their own experiences.

“My heart is exploding!” I can count on one hand how many times my daughters have been invited to the birthday parties of friends with Down syndrome – they've never been invited to any other parties – so I feel like I can sincerely understand what I feel !! So happy for Macy!!” a comment read.

Another commenter agreed, writing, “His joy gives me joy and I understand so much! My daughter Millen was never invited to a single birthday party throughout her childhood and adolescence. Luckily, now that she's an adult, she has peers with whom she shares true friendships (and birthday celebrations!), but those school years were difficult.

“MACY IS INVITED TO ALL OUR JFC BIRTHDAY PARTIES,” a third commenter wrote. “Disabled adult, disabled former student – received multiple birthday invitations, then canceled because my parents were weird about my mobility and their “responsibility.” My mother protected me as much as she could, but there was only so much she could do. Either way, visit Santa Cruz sometime and Macy's will have the best time.

Others said Macy would be invited to any birthday party they threw in the future.

“Macy, you're invited to every birthday party I've ever had,” another comment read.

A few days later, Heather posted an update on how the birthday was going and gushed about Macy's fun at the party, telling her mom “I love birthday parties!”
