MOE offers financial education workshop to youth in state DLIR program | News, Sports, Jobs

KAHULUI–Twenty-nine participants in the state Department of Labor's summer program in Maui and Molokai learned the basics of financial management during the Maui Economic Opportunity Business Development Center's Teen Financial Literacy Workshop, the Monday June 24.

The youth, ages 16 to 18, were participating in the state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations' summer youth program.

BDC specialists Lianne Peros-Busch and Jaimie Dukelow on Maui and Lily Napoleon on Molokai taught the course. There were 16 participants in the Maui workshop at the MOE Wailuku and 13 in the Molokai course at the MOE office in Kaunakakai.

Topics covered included budgeting and saving, basic banking, job searching, credit and its importance.

Next week, BDC will be offering its annual Summer Financial Literacy Workshop for Teens at MOE in Wailuku. The two-day workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, July 1, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, July 2.
