Mobile County Sheriff's Office arrests nearly two dozen people in alleged dog fight

UPDATE 1:00 p.m.: At last check, the sheriff estimated 29 people were facing charges. They are still looking for the owner, Jeff Marks Junior. Sheriff Paul Burch said he ran away and left behind the other owner Nikeria Trotter. She faces charges of dog fighting and marijuana trafficking.

The sheriff says 15 pounds of marijuana was seized from the home.

More than 20 dogs were captured by Mobile County Animal Control.

ORIGINAL STORY: MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) – A press release from the Mobile County Sheriff's Office says they have arrested nearly two dozen people, dismantling an alleged dog fighting ring. Around 23 people were arrested and 14 dogs were kidnapped.

On June 8, 2024, at approximately 8 p.m., the Mobile County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at a residence located at 13020 Williams Avenue in Axis, Alabama. MCSO Detectives
They located an active criminal dog fighting ring at the location and arrested approximately 23 suspects. MCSO seized marijuana, spice and several firearms. Mobile County Animal Control responded and removed approximately 14 dogs.

Early this morning we noticed several arrests in the Mobile County Jail log for people accused of dog fighting. The press release states that more detailed information will be released later.
