The 24-year-old cyclist killed in a crash in Cambridge Friday morning has been identified as a doctoral student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, according to an online fundraiser.

Minh-Thi Nguyen, known to her friends as Mint, was killed after a box truck collided with her at the intersection of Hampshire and Portland streets. Nguyen was taken to the hospital, where she later died.

Nguyen researched atomic, molecular and optical physics at MIT, according to his LinkedIn profile. She graduated from Princeton University in 2021 and received her high school education in California.

“Mint was brilliant, humble and kind,” said a GoFundMe in support of the Nguyen family. As of Sunday evening, more than $45,000 had been raised, doubling the fundraiser's initial goal.

Another cyclist died this month in Cambridge after a crash also involving a box truck. A 55-year-old Florida woman was traveling in the same direction as the truck when it turned right and collided with the cyclist.

Cambridge Bicycle Safety, an advocacy group, is holding a vigil for the two victims at Cambridge City Hall Monday afternoon.

“Two people on bicycles have been killed in collisions with trucks in the past two weeks,” the group wrote. “These accidents are not accidents; These are preventable tragedies and we must ensure that they do not happen again.
