Missing woman found safe in Jones County after overnight search

JONES COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) – After an overnight search, a missing woman was found safe in Jones County.

Officials with the Jones County Fire Council said they received a report of the missing woman shortly after 11 p.m. on Saturday, June 22. The woman was reported missing near Tallahala Creek at the Union Bridge.


According to authorities, the woman floated in the creek and separated from her group to return home around 6:30 p.m. When the group returned to their parking lot, they realized the woman was missing because her vehicle was still parked in the creek. area.

Rescue teams searched the area from Saturday evening to Sunday morning.

Around 8 a.m., authorities said the woman was found by a good Samaritan on North Pumping Station Road. She refused medical treatment and transportation.

Authorities say the woman said she got lost getting to her car and spent the night on a sandbar until she felt it was safe to venture outside in daylight.
