Missing Plymouth man, 69, still not found

PLYMOUTH − A 69-year-old Plymouth man with a history of memory issues remained missing Thursday morning after he was last seen leaving a hospital Tuesday, police said. The driver of a vehicle who may have given the man a ride is also being sought.

Rodney Riviello was last seen at about 11:15 am June 18 leaving Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth. Police said he may have been walking toward Jabez Corner less than half a mile away.

Riviello's daughter, Michelle, who held a news conference with her brother, Dan, and police officials Wednesday, said her father had fallen and was likely at the hospital to get checked out. He had been treated and released without having a wallet or phone on him, police said.

“We did learn that they offered him a taxi voucher that apparently was taking too long, and he became agitated and left without it,” Michelle Riviello said.

During the news conference, police shared a picture of a silver Nissan Armada whose driver may have given Riviello a ride. A man wearing the same sort of sneakers Riviello wears was seen getting into the car, which left the hospital shortly before 12:30 pm and headed in the direction of the rotary at Plymouth North High School, police said.

His daughter said Riviello has memory and reasoning issues.

“My father did have some memory issues. He had a series of mini-strokes that had done some damage to his brain. And so he doesn't have a lot of logic and reasoning to make good decisions in order to get himself safely home ,” Michelle Riviello said, adding that the week's extreme heat adds an additional layer of concern. “I think I'd worry about myself in this heat for 26 hours.”

Plymouth police Capt. Jason Higgins said during the news conference that the search has already drawn a large, multiagency response.

“We're transitioning from a traditional ground search to an investigative research that leverages technology,” Higgins said. “We will continue to look for Mr. Riviello until he is found.”

Rodney Riviello is white, bald and heavy-set. He was wearing a collared, striped shirt and blue shorts. He may have been wearing a Yankees baseball hat.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 508-746-1212.
