Missing mom found dead inside huge python in Indonesia: reports

A missing mother of four has been found dead after being swallowed by a python in Indonesia, according to reports.

The victim, identified as a 45-year-old woman named Farida, was found on Friday June 7 by her husband and residents of the village of Kalempang, according to Agence France-Presse.

The search began after the mother did not return home the previous night, village chief Suardi Rosi told the news agency.

After her husband found her belongings, which “made him suspicious,” the village searched the area, and eventually spotted “a python with a big belly,” the village chief added.

“They agreed to open the belly of the python. As soon as they did, Farida's head was immediately visible,” Rosi told the AFP news agency, which reported that she had been found fully dressed inside the snake.

Video posted by TMZ appears to show the snake being cut open.

This is the fifth person eaten by a python in Indonesia since 2017, according to CBS News. However, reports of humans being killed by pythons are not typical.

Speaking to PEOPLE in 2022, after a similar case made headlines around the world, an expert reiterated that these types of incidents are extremely rare.

While there have been cases of snakes eating humans, said Bruce Jayne, a professor of biological sciences at the University of Cincinnati, the “vast majority” involved very large pythons and people of “pretty small stature.”

“It takes a long time for pythons to reach these really enormous sizes,” he explained. “As a result, there are actually very few of these very, very large pythons.”

Although fatal attacks occur in most cases, most people do not need to worry about them. “Unless it’s a truly gigantic specimen, there’s just nothing to be afraid of if you’re an adult human,” he added.

According to The daily mailFarida's husband said he was “forever sorry” for letting his wife “go out alone”.

“I’m sorry for the suffering she went through,” he said, according to the outlet. “I’m sorry about our family.”
