Rescuers search Greek island for missing TV doctor Michael Mosley

A body has been found during the search for television and radio presenter Michael Mosley, emergency services say. It has not yet been confirmed that it was Mosley.

The body was found next to an umbrella in a cave complex known by locals as “the Abyss”, according to The sun newspaper.

Dr Mosley, 67, was last seen leaving St Nikolas Beach at 1.30pm, when he was believed to have taken the coastal path back to nearby Pedi.

CCTV footage, not shared with the media, from a house on the edge of Pedi Marina showed Dr Mosley heading down a dangerous mountain path at around 2pm on Wednesday.

Search efforts were widespread and involved firefighters, dogs, helicopters, drones, local people and officers from Symi and off-island.

Police had requested help from the Greek Fire Brigade, with six firefighters, a vehicle and a drone team arriving from Rhodes around 2pm (midnight BST) on Thursday.

“Everything is dry and it’s too dangerous for the firefighters to search,” says a firefighter

Firefighters began sweeping a 6.5 km (four mile) radius over a mountainous area surrounded by the sea at 6 a.m. Saturday.

The emergency team was forced to split up to cover the vast swathes of steep rocky terrain alone and use a drone to search the area.

A uniformed worker said there were ten of them searching several peaks because it was too dangerous for large teams to work during the summer months.

Firefighter Stergos Giakoumakis said from one of the summits: “It is not so easy to bring 100 people here, especially at this time, because it is the most dangerous time.

“Everything is dry and it’s too dangerous for the firefighters to search.”

Firefighters were seen using umbrellas for protection as there is no shade or path near the top of the hill that stretches between Pedi Bay and Agia Marina, where they suspect Mosley could have to walk.

Dead grass sticks out between rocks and large boulders, and the only living vegetation is a few small shrubs.

An emergency helicopter was seen flying over Pedi Bay towards the mountainous terrain where the Mosley hunt was taking place at around 3:20 p.m. local time.

The search for missing TV doctor Michael Mosley has ended for another day on the Greek island of Symi as his wife vows “not to give up hope”.

Volunteers and rescue workers continued to search a mountainous and dangerous part of the island on Saturday after the 67-year-old television personality disappeared while out for a walk on Wednesday.

His wife, Dr. Clare Bailey Mosley, said the days since his disappearance have been “the longest and most unbearable days” for her and her children.

Dr Michael Mosley's possible route has been described as “unconventional” by the island's mayor.

Footage shared with Reuters from a security camera in Pedi showed what is believed to be Mosley walking around at 1.49pm on Wednesday holding a parasol, suggesting he may have managed to leave the coastal path safely. security.

Symi Mayor Lefteris Papakalodoukas said images and video footage from security cameras helped sketch out what authorities believed was Mosley's possible route, which he called “unconventional.”

They indicated that it could have continued further through Pedi into another difficult area around Agia Marina, the mayor said.
