Missing Mercedes leads wife to dead husband's mistress

CLAYTON, Mo. – More than six months after a Lake St. Louis man died, his wife discovered he had a mistress in an unusual way. Today, this woman faces charges for trying to pass herself off as his wife.

The 68-year-old died in October 2022. Seven months later, in May 2023, his wife discovered that her late husband owned a 2008 Mercedes registered in his name. But she had never heard of this vehicle. And after her husband died, she saw that the title had been transferred to another woman.


Court documents say Kathryn Moore posed as the widow to the St. Louis County Vital Records office on May 18, 2023. She obtained her death certificate and took it to the office in an attempt to submit a beneficiary deed for St. Louis County property. , even if he knew that the licensor had revoked it.

Four days later, on May 22, Moore went to the Overland Revenue Office to request that the Mercedes title be transferred to her name. According to court documents, she signed an affidavit, identifying herself as the man's surviving wife.

Court documents indicate Kathryn Moore had an extramarital affair with the man for several years. On the man's obituary page, there is also a comment with the initials “KM” that read: “You were a kind and gentle man. I will miss you very much. KM.”

Moore now faces two criminal charges, including one for filing false documents and another for forgery. A criminal summons hearing is scheduled for July 9.

The location of the Mercedes is currently unknown.
