Missing Mashpee girl found safe after extensive search – Boston News, Weather, Sports

MASHPEE, MASS. (WHDH) – A missing 15-year-old girl from Masphee has been found safe, Mashpee Public Schools announced Wednesday.

Aliyah Konton had been missing since Sunday. In a Facebook post Monday, the Mashpee Police Department warned she could be in danger.

Mashpee Public Schools shared a new post on Facebook Wednesday around 4 p.m. stating that Konton had been found.

Konton had been the subject of an extensive search that continued all day Wednesday, with family friends posting fliers around town and local officials posting Konton's photo in a missing person post to outside Mashpee High School.

While the search was still ongoing, Mashpee Police Chief Scott Carline said in a statement that authorities had filed charges against a 13-year-old girl in connection with an alleged assault on Konton at Mashpee High School. .

The alleged assault occurred on May 25, police said, a little more than a week before Konton disappeared. During their investigation, Carline said, police determined there was video of the incident on Snapchat.

Authorities ultimately consulted with the Cape and Islands District Attorney's Office to determine what criminal charges would be filed.

Carline said the investigation in the case was ongoing as of Wednesday afternoon, adding “it would be inappropriate for me to comment on this part of the investigation until this aspect of the investigation is completed.”

“We are aware that this series of events has generated significant public concern and attention and we continue to deploy all available resources to bring this matter to a successful resolution within the parameters of the criminal laws. minors of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts,” Carline said.
