Missing man may be swept away by flash flood in North Texas – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

A North Texas family is searching for a man who was last seen near a creek in Garland before a heavy downpour.

It's been three days since she last saw her boyfriend near a Garland Creek. Yet for Stacy Simpson, it's as if time has stood still.

“At first it was watering. Then it started getting stronger. The ground was already saturated, so the culvert filled up a lot faster,” Simpson said.

As a downpour fell in the afternoon Saturday, Simpson sought nearby shelter. She says Gerrad Kelley, 50, stayed near Pleasant Valley Road and Shalimar Drive.

“I was there for five or ten minutes and came back. That's when I got this video. The water was higher than I had ever seen it,” said she declared.

Only then did she realize that while her bike and shoes remained behind, Kelley was missing.

“I just don’t want to think about him here. I just don’t know where he’s at,” Simpson said.

On Saturday, Garland police said their officers conducted an extensive search of the area with helicopters and drones.

A few days later, the stream is calm again. Friends help Simpson continue her search downstream, where she fears the rushing waters could sweep away her partner of eight years.

“I love him so much,” she said.

The family describes Kelley as 5'6″ tall and weighing approximately 170 pounds. He has brown hair, a gray beard, and tattoos on his finger and wrist.

While Simpson waits for authorities to do more, she says she's not giving up.

“We’ll keep looking until we find it,” Simpson said.

Kelley was last seen wearing black shorts and a gray “Army” t-shirt.

Anyone with information is asked to call Garland police.
