Missing dog found shot in Horry County pond, police report says

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WBTW) — An investigation is underway after a dead dog with a gunshot wound was recovered from a pond in Horry County, according to documents obtained by News13.

Horry County police responded to a home on Bramblewood Lakes Drive in the Conway area on Sunday for a cadaver dog, according to an incident report. The responding officer spoke with the homeowner, who said his three dogs left his house around 3 a.m.


Two of the three dogs returned home after a few hours, but the third did not return home, according to the report. The owner told police he spent most of the day looking for the dog, but did not find it.

The dog's owner received a call around 5:20 p.m. from an unknown person saying he had found the third dog dead in the retention pond near his home on Gravelley Shore Drive, which is the next street to the owner's home. , the report says.

The owner told police that when he arrived on scene, his dog had been removed from the pond and had two visible gunshot wounds to his leg and upper center portion of his head, according to the report.

The injuries appear to have been caused by a small caliber firearm, according to the report. The responding officer took photos to document the injuries and Environmental Services was contacted.
