Missing Davie County woman killed in murder-suicide, deputies say

DAVIE COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — Investigators have confirmed the death of a missing Davie County woman earlier this year The week was the result of a murder-suicide.

Wednesday around 10 p.m., deputies say they came to do a welfare check on Cynthia “Cindy” Roberson Gobble, 60, of Mocksville at a home in the 300 block of Country Lane. Family members said they had not been able to contact her since late afternoon.

Investigators say she was in the process of separating and divorcing Gregory Wayne Gobble, 59, of Mocksville.

Police at the scene confirmed she was not home and found evidence she did not leave on her own.

Family members said it was strange that she had been unreachable for so long and that her belongings were found in her vehicle.

Investigators and family members checked locations Cynthia and Gregory Gobble were known to frequent and unsuccessfully attempted to contact them electronically.

Deputies were also unable to locate Gregory's white Ford truck, although they were able to confirm he was driving that truck earlier Wednesday.

Both were later registered as missing persons and a law enforcement alert was issued for them and the white Ford truck.

Investigators searched the Country Lane home Thursday as they continued their efforts to find the missing two. A An Ashanti Alert has been issued for Cynthia, Gregory being identified as the suspect in her disappearance.

The alert said there was evidence of “physical endangerment, kidnapping or abduction.”

The Iredell County Sheriff's Office received a call Friday about two bodies found just beyond the Iredell-Davie County line off Sheffield Road in a wooded area.

Investigators from both counties determined the bodies to be those of Cynthia and Gregory Gobble.

Both died from gunshot wounds and the weapon was found at the scene, according to the Davie County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators say Gregory shot and killed Cynthia before killing himself.

Deputies say they are not looking for any other suspects or people of interest in this case and there is no ongoing danger to the public.
