Missing Davie County couple found dead, deputies say

Investigators said Cynthia and Greg Gobble disappeared under “strange circumstances.” Their bodies were found Friday in a wooded area.

DAVIE COUNTY, N.C. — Investigators found the bodies of a missing husband and wife from Davie County on Friday.

The Davie County Sheriff's Office said Cynthia and Greg Gobble were found dead in a wooded area just outside of Iredell County.

This comes after an Ashanti Alert was issued for Cynthia on Thursday. Her husband Greg was identified as a “person of interest” in her disappearance. The NC Center for Missing Persons says an Ashanti Alert is issued when there is “evidence of physical endangerment, kidnapping, or abduction.”

The couple is married but separated. Deputies said they were reported missing Wednesday evening under “strange circumstances.” Family members said their last known location was at Cynthia's home in Mocksville. Detectives found Cynthia's purse, wallet and insulin. Their phones had also been turned off and Cynthia's social media had gone cold. No one could reach them.

Detectives have not said how they died. They do not believe anyone else was involved in the incident and there is no threat to the public.

A vigil was held Friday evening at Ijames Baptist Church in Mocksville, which the couple attended.

What is an Ashanti Alert?

You may be familiar with “Amber Alerts” or “Silver Alerts”, but what is an “Ashanti Alert”?

An Ashanti Alert is used when investigators believe an adult who does not fall under an Amber or Silver Alert has been abducted or kidnapped.

This is for anyone aged 18 to 64.

The alert is named after Ashanti Billie who was kidnapped and killed in 2017.

Billie was kidnapped from JEB Little Creek, only to be found murdered in North Carolina. She was 19 years old at the time of her kidnapping; too old for an Amber Alert and too young for a Silver Alert. Her parents believed an alert could have helped save their daughter's life.
