Missing child's case is Michigan's oldest

According to the Child Crime Prevention & Safety Center, every 40 seconds a child goes missing or is abducted in the United States. 840,000 children go missing every year. Although this number is very high, fortunately, most missing child cases are resolved within a few hours.

Unfortunately, many cases go unresolved, for several reasons. The affair of Adele Marie Wells is a particular case here in Michigan that goes back November 21, 1958, making it Michigan's oldest open missing child case. Details about the case are slim, but this is the story courtesy of the Charley Project.

Adèle Marie Wells History

On the morning of November 21, 1958, second-grader Adele stayed home sick from school. Feeling better later that day, she finally went to school. Her grandmother's house was on the way to school, so she stopped to say hello. No one knew it would be the last time her family would see her.

The police report describes a “young man carrying a little girl to a dirty black Chevrolet.” It was never confirmed that he was the kidnapper, but several children claim that someone matching that description had tried to lure them into the vehicle a few days earlier.

Description

Adele will no longer look like she did when she was kidnapped at age 7, but her overall appearance will be the same. She is an African-American woman with black hair and brown eyes. Below is a look at how she looks, based on her age, at the age of 69. If you have any information, you can submit a tip here.
