Missing child found dead in Redwood River

After an initial investigation, department agents began searching for the child.

MARSHALL, Minn. – A missing toddler was tragically found dead in a river in Marshall, Minn., Wednesday evening.

The Marshall Police Department was initially called to the 200 block of South 4th Street for a missing child at 4:45 p.m., according to a statement from the department.

After an initial investigation, department officers received assistance from the Lyon County Sheriff's Office and other local first responders and conducted a search.

At approximately 5:20 p.m., an unresponsive 4-year-old boy was found in the Redwood River near the intersection of Kossuth Street and 7th Street.

Emergency crews attempted life-saving efforts at the scene and en route to the hospital, but the boy was later pronounced dead at Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center.

An investigation into this matter is ongoing, but no foul play is suspected, according to the release.
