Missing child found and identified during river searches | News

VINCENNES — The body of a child was found Thursday evening in the Wabash River, near Kimmel Park in Vincennes, after nearly five hours of searching.The child identified by the Knox County Coroner's Office was five-year-old Mila Hollingsworth, who was pronounced dead around 7:17 p.m.Knox County dispatch received a 911 call around 2:40 p.m. that Mila was missing after playing in the river. Multiple agencies arrived on scene to begin search efforts by boat, sonar and dive teams from the Vincennes Fire Department and Indiana Conversation Officers. At 7:14 p.m., Mila was picked up by conservation officers near the park's boat launch.According to a news release from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Deonna Hollingsworth, 26, of Vincennes, was arrested Thursday evening and charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death. Indiana Conservation Officer Joe Haywood said Mila was in Deonna's care at the time and that Mila had been "put in a position that threatened the life or health of the child."“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family,” Haywood said. “…As a law enforcement agency, we take great pride in making recoveries to bring closure to families…”Other agencies assisting the Indiana Conservation Officers included the Knox County Sheriff's Department, Vincennes City Police, Vincennes University Police Department, State Police Indiana, Vincennes Township Fire Department, Good Samaritan Emergency Medical Services and Knox County Emergency Management Agency.Joseph Millspaugh, Knox County Coroner, said in a news release that autopsy results are still pending and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mila's death is underway.
