Missing Chicago woman's cell phone found in Bahamas waters a week after she disappeared

A Chicago woman's phone was found in Bahamas waters a week after she disappeared during a yoga retreat.

Authorities informed CNN of the new development on Wednesday, but did not provide details.

“We have conducted a thorough investigation into this matter,” Royal Bahamas Police Chief Chrislyn Skippings said at a news conference. “Our priority is to locate Taylor and return him to good health.”

Skippings added that police used drones, search and rescue dogs and divers during the investigation. Casey's mother arrived in the Bahamas on Tuesday and said they were doing everything they could to find her.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force said Taylor Casey, 41, was last seen on Wednesday, June 19, in Paradise Island.

No information on a specific timeline was immediately provided and the circumstances surrounding his disappearance are unknown.

A Facebook page dedicated to her search says she was last seen at the Sivananda Ashram yoga retreat and has a “vibrant and loving personality.”

Her family describes her as a light-skinned black woman, approximately 5'9″ tall and weighing 135 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

“We are deeply concerned for Taylor’s safety and well-being,” her mother, Colette Seymore, said in a news release. “We love Taylor and want her home.”

The statement also states that Casey has been practicing yoga for 15 years and attended the yoga retreat to “achieve a long-term goal of deepening her practice.”

The U.S. Embassy in the Bahamas issued a travel warning and advisory earlier this year “due to crime” and asked travelers to “exercise extreme caution.”

“Violent crimes, such as burglaries, armed robberies, and sexual assaults, occur in both tourist and non-tourist areas,” according to the State Department. “Be vigilant when staying at short-term vacation rental properties where private security companies are not present.”
