Missing British TV presenter Michael Mosley found dead on Greek island of Symi – Firstpost

British television presenter and healthy lifestyle advocate Michael Mosley was found dead in a rocky area on the Greek island of Symi, just meters from his destination, local mayors told Reuters on Sunday.

Mosley, 67, had been missing since Wednesday after walking alone along a coastal path in the scorching heat.

“It’s definitely him,” said Deputy Mayor Nikitas Grillis, while awaiting formal identification.

Police spokeswoman Constantina Dimoglidou said earlier that the body of a person suspected to be Mosley was found in the Agia Marina area, north of the village of Pedi and opposite the beach northeast of Agios Nikolaos where Mosley was going for his walk.

Another police official said his body was found on rocky terrain near the sea.

Symi Mayor Lefteris Papakalodoukas said the discovery was made after he and others, including journalists from national television ERT, were filming the area from a ship.

“We analyzed the recorded evidence and it was obvious that unfortunately it was Mosley,” Papakalodoukas said.

“It was found 10 meters from the sea, 10-15 meters from its destination, Agia Marina beach, between a fence and a path.”

State television ERT reported that he was found lying on his stomach with his head resting on a rock.

“We don’t know if he had an accident or if he wasn’t feeling well,” Papakalodoukas said.

The coast guard and firefighters were deployed to the scene, a Reuters witness said. A coroner was traveling to Symi aboard a coast guard vessel, a police official said, adding that the body would be transferred to the nearby island of Rhodes.

Mosley, who was on the island with his wife, was last seen alive at 1:30 p.m. (10:30 GMT) on Wednesday. Her children arrived in Symi on Friday.

Symi, part of the Dodecanese island chain, is approximately 16 km long and has a population of 2,500.

Mosley has appeared on British programs including the BBC series Trust Me, I am a Doctor, BBC's The One Show and ITV's This Morning. He popularized the 5:2 diet, which advocates intermittent fasting.

Saleyha Ahsan, a doctor who worked with Mosley at the BBC, offered her “sincere condolences” to Mosley's family.

“He lived and breathed by his work,” she told Sky News. “He was an inspiration.”
