Miss Teen USA UmaSofia Srivastava Resigns Days After Winning Miss USA Crown

For the second time in three days, a national beauty pageant winner is returning her tiara.

UmaSofia Srivastava announced Wednesday that she is relinquishing the title of Miss Teen USA.

“After months of struggling with this decision, I have made the choice to step down as Miss Teen USA 2023,” she posted on Instagram. “After much consideration, I have decided to step down as I recognize that my personal values ​​no longer fully align with the direction of the organization.”

She added, “I am grateful for all the support from my family, state directors, queen sisters, and fans who have cheered me on since winning my state title. I will always look back fondly on my time as Miss NJ Teen USA, and the experience of representing my state as a first-generation Mexican-American on a national level was rewarding in and of itself.” In the caption accompanying her post, Srivastava noted that “this was definitely not how I envisioned my reign ending.”

Srivastava was named Miss Teen USA during the annual pageant, which aired live on cwtv.com and the CW app in September 2023.

The Miss Teen USA Instagram account thanked Srivastava for her reign in another post, adding, “We respect and support UmaSofia's decision to step down from office.” The well-being of our members is a top priority. We are currently reviewing plans to hand over responsibilities to a successor, and we will soon announce the crowning of the new Miss Teen USA. »

Srivastava's resignation comes shortly after Miss USA winner Noelia Voigt also announced her decision to step down from her position, citing mental health issues.

“In life, I strongly value the importance of making the decisions that are best for you and your mental health,” she wrote in an Instagram post Monday. “As individuals, we grow by experiencing different things in life that lead us to learn more about ourselves. My journey as Miss USA has been incredibly meaningful, proudly representing Utah, and later the United States at Miss Universe. Unfortunately, I have made the very difficult decision to relinquish the title of Miss USA 2023.”

The CW recently announced plans to air this year's Miss USA pageant and Miss Teen USA pageant on its broadcast network in August.
