Milpitas man arrested for setting fire to McDonald's (police)

(KRON) — A man was arrested after allegedly lighting fire at a McDonald's restaurant early Wednesday morning, Milpitas police said in a news release. At 2:38 a.m., police received a call of an arson in progress at the McDonald's located at 41 Ranch Drive.

The suspect was seen throwing an incendiary device through a window, police said. The McDonald's was closed and no one was inside when the device was thrown into the establishment.

An MPD officer arrived three minutes after receiving the call. The Milpitas Fire Department also responded and eventually extinguished the fire, but damage was estimated at $150,000.

The suspect was arrested approximately a half-mile from the McDonald's. He was identified as Tai Trinh, a 46-year-old Milpitas man.

Trinh was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges of arson and criminal vandalism. His bond is currently estimated at $160,000, according to county jail records.
