Millsboro man arrested for homicide | Police and firefighters

Delaware State Police

A 19-year-old Millsboro area man was identified this week by Delaware State Police as a suspect in a shooting that killed a 26-year-old man on the morning of Tuesday, June 4.

Malachi Waters was arrested in Delmar, Maryland, near the Delaware-Maryland border, shortly after 10:47 a.m. Tuesday after the preliminary investigation into the shooting identified him as a suspect. Police said that after his extradition to Delaware, he will be charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Both crimes are misdemeanors.

Tuesday morning, police said, they responded to a call about a shooting on St. Thomas Boulevard, within the Millsboro city limits. When they arrived, police said, officers found a 26-year-old man with a gunshot wound and began lifesaving efforts. The victim was transported to an area hospital, where he died, police said. The victim's name was not released mid-week until his family was notified.

Millsboro police asked the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit to take over the investigation, and the preliminary investigation, police said, revealed that the suspect allegedly approached the victim with a gun and allegedly began shooting, hitting the victim, then fleeing in a car.

A short time later, police located the suspect's car in Delmar and, with the assistance of the Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team, stopped it and arrested Waters.

The homicide unit was still investigating the incident as of midweek. Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact Sgt. S. Yeich at (302) 741-2703, to leave a private message on Facebook on the Delaware State Police page or to call Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.
