Millie Bobby Brown has opened up about her frustration at being sexualized as a teenager. The Stranger Things star shared a video on Instagram to mark his 16th birthday, which referenced the challenges of living through adolescence in the public eye.

Along with the soundtrack to Justin Bieber's song “Changes,” the video montage showcased the ups and downs of Brown's career and life over the past few years.

Negative headlines were interspersed with images of the actor signing autographs and posing on the red carpet at prestigious awards ceremonies.

Alongside the two-minute video, Brown wrote a lengthy caption acknowledging her extraordinary years. Admitting that it hasn't always been easy, Brown listed her main frustrations, including being harassed and sexualized at a young and vulnerable age.

“There are times when I get frustrated with the inaccuracies, inappropriate comments, sexualization and unnecessary insults that ultimately lead to pain and insecurity for me,” the star wrote.

In a defiant tone, the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador wrote that she “will not be defeated” by this intrusion and that she will “continue to do what I love and spread the message in order to to bring changes”.

In addition to being wished a happy birthday, Brown was supported by friends also in the public eye who could relate to the unique fame situation that resulted from her success on the Netflix show.
