Miller charged with attempted murder after Wellsville shooting

A Pennsylvania man has been charged with attempted murder and other crimes after allegedly shooting a man during an incident Wednesday night in the town of Wellsville.

Gregory S. Miller, 54, of Penndel, Pennsylvania, was charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, first-degree criminal use of a weapon and multiple counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

State police based in Amity responded to Smith Hollow Road around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a shooting that resulted in injuries. Police said the ensuing investigation determined Miller had gotten into an argument with a 48-year-old man “after several hours of drinking.”

Miller retrieved a Springfield Armory .45 ACP from his truck, police said, and fired several shots at the victim. One of the shots struck the man in the left leg. Others at the party were then able to disarm Miller and hold him on the ground until state police arrived.

The shooting victim was taken to Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and then transferred to Strong Memorial Hospital for further treatment.
