Millennium's (alleged) $50 million man has joined new London hedge fund

Stefan Ericsson reappeared. Two years after leaving Citadel to join Millennium for an alleged amount of $50 million (according to the New York Times), Ericsson has indeed joined Taula Capital in London. Taula is not Millennium, but it is not not Neither is millennial. The founder of Taula is Diego Megia, former senior portfolio manager at Millennium. Megia employs 25 other people from Millennium (according to Bloomberg); Of Taula's $5 billion in seed capital, $3 billion came from Megia's former employer.

Ericsson is the main man in Megia. Megia is the CIO (chief investment officer) of Taula; Ericcson is his deputy CIO. It's unclear whether Ericsson is still receiving the (alleged) $50 million that Millennium allegedly offered it to leave Citadel. Neither Megia nor Ericsson responded to a request for comment.

Either way, Megia seems to be a popular boss. Sources say he is a respected manager of sales teams, which he has built in the past at both Citadel and Millennium, and is meritocratic and collaborative. He hired 68 people in total, including 43 not of the millennium.

Those 43 hires include recruits from competing hedge funds and banks, some of whom only recently joined Taula. Kevin Quinlan, head of treasury at Taula, for example, spent nine years in fixed income sales at Goldman Sachs in London until May 2024. Alan Huynh, head of data and software engineering, comes to join us from Balyasny. Data and analytics manager, Tristan Alasoeur arrived from Schonfeld two months ago.

London is not Taula's only office. There are around 26 employees registered in the city with the Financial Services Authority (FCA). The other 42 are in Jersey, New York, Dubai, Milan and Switzerland. Most of these employees didn't have two years out of the market like Ericsson, but maybe they didn't have its non-compete.
