Midtown shooting: 33-year-old man shot in the leg in Manhattan after an argument

MIDTOWN, Manhattan (WABC) — Police are investigating after a 33-year-old man was shot Tuesday near a working-class neighborhood in Midtown Manhattan.

Officers went to Broadway and West 33rd Street, just a block from Penn Station, around 8 p.m. for a report that a person had been shot.

When police arrived, they encountered a 33-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his left leg.

He was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue where he is expected to survive.

Sources told Eyewitness News the incident started with a fight between the victim and a group of people. They say someone in the group reached into a bag, pulled out a gun and shot the victim.

“I was walking on 6th Avenue. I heard a gunshot and saw two people arguing – a guy with no shirt and another with a shirt on with drugs and the guy with no shirt on was the one who was shot with drugs,” eyewitness Jose Rivera said. “All I heard was him constantly saying he wanted to kill them and he wanted them dead. And he told the police the same thing, he doesn't want to press charges, he just wants them to be dead.”

The suspect fled on a scooter, according to sources.

No arrests have been made and the investigation continues.
